Pan-African telecoms operator, Gondwana International Networks, has announced that it has signed a new contract with Avanti Communications. Gondwana will deploy both broadband and VOIP services to thousands of consumer and enterprise customers via Avanti’s HYLAS 2 satellite, under its iWayAfrica and Africa Online brands. The countries served will include: Kenya, Tanzania, parts of Uganda, Zimbabwe and South Africa.

We are excited to partner with Avanti to power our VOIP and broadband satellite services. Deployment of Ka-band via small dishes is an exciting and compelling prospect for consumer data communications in Africa. The costs savings – combined with the flexibility and quality of the Avanti proposition – will change this market completely.”

Mathew Welthagen, Chief Executive Officer at Gondwana

We are delighted to work with Gondwana in delivering services across Africa. The in-built flexibility of Avanti’s satellite fleet will provide the high levels of service required by Gondwana’s customers across five territories.”

Matthew O’Connor, Chief Operating Officer at Avanti Communications

Gondwana International Networks recently acquired iWayAfrica and Africa Online Mauritius from South African operator, Telkom SA.

We are delighted that one of the world’s most renowned news organisations has adopted our SNG service. Our unique Ka-band technology offers higher throughput services and significant cost savings, making it perfectly suited for deployment in the global broadcast industry. We look forward to continuing our relationship with Reuters to deliver highly-dependable, flexible broadcast satellite solutions to other regions.”

Matthew O’Connor, Chief Operating Officer at Avanti

The relationship has been supported by Broadcast IP Systems (BIPS), a specialist supplier to the broadcasting industry, formed in response to the increased use of IP by broadcasters as a contribution medium.

We pride ourselves in providing our broadcast clients with proven innovations in satellite technology. Avanti’s Ka-band service provides a number of benefits, including lower power consumption and lightweight, easy-to-deploy terminals. The coverage of such a high-profile trial is further proof of Ka-band’s competitive advantage in global broadcast.”
